This class is taught by:

Brian Andriot

Brian graduated from the Yoga East 200 hr Teacher Training Program in 2017.

Anne Borders

For over a decade, Anne has been finding joy and inspiration in the daily exploration of yoga. Her journey began with Bikram yoga in 1998 and then, after leading classes for many years, she decided to delve deeper into the history, anatomy and philosophy of this transformative practice. She completed her 200-hour training with Yoga East in June of 2013 and has been passionately teaching ever since. Always looking to expand her yogic understanding, Anne has attended workshops with John Friend, Kino MacGregor, Doug Keller, Christina Sell and many others. Her most profound inspirations come from her students and family. She is honored to serve those looking to tap into a deeper understanding of their bodies and spirits.

Susan Reid

Susan began a Yoga asana practice in 2001, came to Yoga East in 2007 and found her teacher, Laura Spaulding, who opened her understandings of Yoga and introduced a great human handbook, Patañjāli’s Yoga Sutra. Susan is an E-RYT 500, graduating from Yoga East’s 200 hr training in 2009 and the 300 hr module in 2012. Her training continues in the Krishnamacharya lineage - Ashtanga and Iyengar Yoga, and with the wonderful teachers Laura brings to Louisville. Susan has been influenced by workshops with; John Friend, David Garrigues, Saraswathi Jois, Doug Keller, Kino MacGregor, Robert Moses, Karin O'Bannon, Ramanand Patel, François Raoult, Darren Rhodes, Swami Dayananda Saraswati, Christina Sell, Dean Sluyter and David Swenson.

Catherine Followell

Catherine began her yoga practice in 2014, and completed her training through Yoga East in 2015. She enjoys teaching a variety of classes, to all levels of students.   When not teaching, she enjoys her own Ashtanga practice.

Kelli Torpey

Kelli started practicing yoga in 1998 when she joined Yoga East. For years she benefited from a variety of excellent instructors (Laura Spaulding, Karen Strobel, Paul Long and Kim Esteran) and workshops (Sharath Rangaswamy, David Swenson and John Friend). She obtained her 200-hour Hatha yoga certification from Yoga East in 2003. Her teacher training taught her more about discipline of practice, the value of mantras and meditation and the beauty of early morning mysore practice.

In 2009, Kelli moved to Wisconsin in search of a new direction in life. Her yoga practice sustained her through many transitions and challenges. She taught Ashtanga yoga for three years at a local YMCA. She created and taught a workshop titled “The Art of Yoga” to 25 high school seniors, incorporating art expression, yoga and guided meditation, which planted the seed of the idea for her future LLC.

Upon her return home to Louisville in January 2012, she has gratefully returned to Yoga East as a student. She started her own part-time business of art expression and yoga, titled Kelli’s Art of Yoga in 2013. For several years she has taught yoga part-time for a variety of studios and fitness centers, including Baptist East/Milestone Fitness, Yoga on Baxter, Atria of St. Matthews, several churches and private clients.

Kelli brings humor, compassion and a sincere interest in exploring the healing powers of yoga with others and she feels deep respect and reverence for Laura Spaulding, our yoga lineage and the opportunity to teach at Yoga East again.

Anne Kosko

After teaching group fitness for 17 years, Anne took her first Bikram yoga class and was hooked. She gave up teaching group fitness and dedicated her time to the study of yoga. Since taking the first Bikram class, Anne has also studied Ashtanga and Iyengar styles of yoga. Anne draws from all of these styles of yoga to teach an invigorating, yet accessible Hatha yoga class that appeals to beginners and continuing students alike. Anne is a graduate of the 2004 Teacher Training Class.  She received her 500 hour certification in August of 2008.  November of 2014 Anne upgraded her Yoga Alliance registration to ERYT-500 and is also a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider.   Anne has studied with Fancois Raoult, Carin O'Bannon, Lou Hoytt, David Swensen, Ramanand Patel, Amenda McMain, Sharath Rangaswamy, Doug Keller, Christina Sell and Anna Ferguson but considers her teachers to be Laura Spaulding and Paul Long. Anne is a graduate of the University of Louisville and holds a BSC in Management.

Christiane Tawfik

Christiane Tawfik has had interest in physical activity since her young years, yet she did not enjoy working out all that much until she started yoga classes at a local gym. Around 2006 she attended her first yoga class after working out and thought that yes, I can do this again. And she did again and again and eventually practiced regularly.

In 2010 she started practicing at Yoga East after getting a Christmas gift. Christiane enjoyed practicing there and in 2014 trained with Laura Spalding and graduated. She had many world renowned teachers including Francois Raoul, Doug Keller, Kino McGregor, David Garagues. Her local inspiring teachers include Laura Spalding, Anne Kosko, Susan Reid, Kara Price, Amy Gillis-Carlson, and Jessica K-Wilson.

Christiane has been teaching since May 2014 many classes a week, and has several repeat participants to her classes. She now teaches at Yoga East and Fitness 19 II. She appreciates most about yoga the mind/body/spirit connection and presents that aspect of yoga in her classes. She is enjoying the yoga journey by attending hatha, flow and sometimes ashtanga classes. Her favorite yoga pose is Ardha Chandrasana, half moon pose.

She trained with a Louisville Hall of Fame trainer, Porter Cotrell. Her studies and work experience are in Business, marketing, accounting and bookkeeping.

Brandi Mundo

Brandi Mundo has been a student of yoga since 2003, and began teaching in 2010.  She completed her 500 hour certification from Yoga East, and is registered with Yoga Alliance. She also has 1000 hours of bodywork and massage training from The California College of Physical Arts. She has a B.S. in Health and Human Performance from the University of Louisville. When she is not teaching, or massaging she loves to read, and hang with her little yogi.

Becky Thompson

I took my first yoga class around age 50. The very first class was a Yoga Nidra taught by my teacher Laura Spaulding.

I was hooked. I tried lots of different classes and teachers. My gratitude to all of them, especially Kim Esteran.
In 2009 Laura offered Volunteer Teacher Training and I signed up. In the spring of 2010 I started teaching yoga as a volunteer at Gilda's Club. Now more hooked.
In 2010, Laura and YE offered me the opportunity of a life time, the Rhonda Lawson Memorial Scholarship. This Scholarship gave me a chance to study and become a Yoga Teacher. The more I studied and practiced and taught, the more I could see the benefits of Yoga for everyone. In 2012 I completed the 500 hour level of teacher training. I am forever grateful to Laura and YE for this gift.

I believe yoga is for everybody. I have had the good fortune to teach many different students who might not look like traditional yoga students, but who are totally committed to the teachings. Actually, I am the student in this arena.

My teachers include Ramanand Patel, Francois Raoult, Doug Keller, Kino MacGregor, Christina Sell, Saraswathi Jois, Thank you Laura for bringing all of these wonderful teachers to YE. I have also with studied Rodney Yee and his wife Colleen Yee, Leslie Kaminoff, Lillias Folen, Dr. Baxter Bell and Judith Hansen Lasater. I completed Judith Hansen Lasater's Relax and Renew training and have been teaching Restorative Yoga for several years.

Becky is a Yoga Aliance RYT 500.

Emily Smith

Emily first developed a steady yoga practice in 2009 while attending Ashtanga Led classes at Yoga East under the instruction of her first yoga teacher, Tom Keenan, with whom she also spent two years practicing Bikram yoga.  In 2010, she began practicing Mysore-Style Ashtanga with her teacher, Laura Spaulding.  She graduated from the Yoga East 200 hr Teacher Training Program in 2017. Emily's practice and teaching are inspired by many of the other wonderful yoga teachers at Yoga East, as well as classes, workshops, and/or retreats led by Francois Raoult, Tim Feldmann, David Garrigues, Robert Moses, bhakti yoga kirtan musician Jai Uttal, and meditation teachers Adyashanti and Dean Sluyter.

Jamie Turner

Jamie has a long history with various types of movement systems. She began practicing yoga and Pilates in 1996 as a part of her dance training. She continued practicing various forms of yoga over the following decade with a particular love for Anusaru yoga. Jamie moved to Louisville in 2008 from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She found Yoga East and Laura Spaulding in 2010. She completed her 200-hour training with Laura in June of 2013 and is working toward her 500-hour certification currently. In addition to Laura, Jamie studies regularly with Sianna Sherman, Tim Miller, Ramanand Patel, Kino MacGregor, Doug Keller, John Friend, David Garrigues, Francois Raoult, and others. Jamie considers her primary practice Ashtanga Yoga though her 5:45 A.M. practices have been wonderfully disrupted with the 2015 adoption of her baby boy, Alec and the 2016 adoption of her son, J.T.
When not practicing or teaching Jamie works in corporate America and enjoys spending time with her family.
Level 1-2 Mixed Level classes are geared to students in normal health who are still working to learn fundamental postures as well as those who have more experience and are seeking to expand, refine and develop their yoga practice at more subtle levels.
