Yoga Flow 1-2

This class is taught by:

Rachel Torres

Rachel Torres has been practicing (when not traveling with her active duty soldier husband) at Yoga East for 18 years.
In my teaching I feel my heart most pulled to female empowerment and trauma recovery. So after my 2010 yoga certification, I focused on trauma recovery work through yoga at the VA, Girls, Inc., and the Wounded Warrior project.
Because of my yoga practice, I know I am not my thoughts. I am Isvara, the consciousness of God, and I love to have fun, recover, relax, get super strong, and be open to whatever happens in class. I am now working toward my 500 hour certification and am a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists and a certified yoga therapist.
My personal asana practice is a mix of Ashtanga, Kettlebells, balance trainers, and Pilates equipment. I’ve been known to “MacGyver” TRX suspension trainers into Iyengar rope wall configurations. I may have taught sun salutations to “Freebird” (to practice breathing slowly when music gets faster and also because a day without Skynyrd is a day without sunshine).
The rest of my practice (meditation, strong ethics, moderation, focus, getting away from screens and putting a knit hat over my eyes and breath work) is mostly challenged by what Pahttabi Jois called “the seventh series”: family life. Parenting and marriage give constant opportunities to practice.

Susan Reid

Susan began a Yoga asana practice in 2001, came to Yoga East in 2007 and found her teacher, Laura Spaulding, who opened her understandings of Yoga and introduced a great human handbook, Patañjāli’s Yoga Sutra. Susan is an E-RYT 500, graduating from Yoga East’s 200 hr training in 2009 and the 300 hr module in 2012. Her training continues in the Krishnamacharya lineage - Ashtanga and Iyengar Yoga, and with the wonderful teachers Laura brings to Louisville. Susan has been influenced by workshops with; John Friend, David Garrigues, Saraswathi Jois, Doug Keller, Kino MacGregor, Robert Moses, Karin O'Bannon, Ramanand Patel, François Raoult, Darren Rhodes, Swami Dayananda Saraswati, Christina Sell, Dean Sluyter and David Swenson.

Kara Price

Kara Price has been practicing yoga and Pilates for over 16 years. She has been teaching Pilates since 1996 and yoga since 2006. She has studied under various teachers. Pilates: Romana Kryzanowska, Sari Mejia Santo, Bob Liekens, Michael Fritzke and Ton Voogt and Madeleine Black to name a few; worked with: Ana Caban, Brooke Siler and Liv Berger. Yoga: Frank Mauro, Joe Miller, Cyndi Lee, Seane Corn, Judith Lasater, Darren Rhodes, Ramanand Patel, Francois Raoult, Doug Keller, Robert Moses, Laura Spaulding and Sianna Sherman. Kara is a PMA-CPT and is also certified in Vinyasa Yoga, Restorative Yoga and Pre/Postnatal Yoga.

Anne Borders

For over a decade, Anne has been finding joy and inspiration in the daily exploration of yoga. Her journey began with Bikram yoga in 1998 and then, after leading classes for many years, she decided to delve deeper into the history, anatomy and philosophy of this transformative practice. She completed her 200-hour training with Yoga East in June of 2013 and has been passionately teaching ever since. Always looking to expand her yogic understanding, Anne has attended workshops with John Friend, Kino MacGregor, Doug Keller, Christina Sell and many others. Her most profound inspirations come from her students and family. She is honored to serve those looking to tap into a deeper understanding of their bodies and spirits.

Kate Mattingly

Kate graduated from the Yoga East 200 hr Teacher Training Program in 2016.

Amy DeFigueiredo

Amy DeFigueiredo has been practicing yoga since 2005. She received her 200 hour teaching certification through the Himalayan Institute in Honesdale, PA. Her first
teacher, Jim Bennitt, gifted her with a solid and rigorous hatha yoga practice which included a tantric perspective of yoga in relation to life. Her training with Rolf Sovik and Pandit Rajmani Tigunait of H. I. cemented her foundational practices and she has continued in the tantric tradition with studies under Rod Stryker and his senior teachers.
In the autumn of 2014, she dedicated to the most fortunate and blessed studies of the
Krishnamacharya/Sri K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga lineage lead by Laura Spaulding here at Yoga East; it is within the top three most auspicious happenings of her life. She counts
Diane Avice du Buisson among her most precious teachers. She continues her tantric practice and studies with Venerable Khenpo Tsewang Dongyal Rinpoche of the Tibetan Nyingma lineage as her brightest of guides in the Dzogchen view.
This class is engaging for newer students and those who have been practicing longer. As students' skills and understanding of yoga deepens, the asanas will as well. The class will focus particularly on sun salutations, their purpose and the union of each movement with the breath. Class ends with deep relaxation.
