200 Hour Foundation Course has an emphasis on traditional yoga training for professional, licensed therapists who are interested in adding yoga postures, breathing and relaxation to their therapy practice. Yoga has been shown to to have benefits for individuals with depression, PTSD, anxiety, and low self-esteem. 30 week course meets Wednesdays 9:30 am to 4:00 pm August 23, 2017 through March 14, 2018. The Course includes 180 hours of instruction and 30 hours of home assignments for a total of 210 hours for Yoga Alliance registration.
Techniques includes 90 hours of detailed instruction on how to practice and teach: yoga postures with correct form and alignment, pranayama, the breathing exercises, relaxation and meditation.
Teaching Methodology 30 hours of instruction and discussion yoga teaching methods. Includes methods of various yoga traditions, how to adapt instructions for different kinds of students (different age groups, students affected by trauma and PTSD, students with physical challenges, etc).
Anatomy and Physiology 20 hours of instruction on anatomy and physiology pertaining to yoga postures, yoga breathing and relaxation. Discussion includes current medical and scientific studies of how and why yoga works.
Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle and Ethics 20 hours of instruction on yoga ancient and modern history, how yoga has developed, the philosophy that is the foundation of yoga, and current ethical and legal issues in the yoga teaching profession.
Practice Teaching is 20 hours of teaching under supervision by an experienced instructor, with supportive critique.

Series of 16 classes gives each teacher training student the opportunity to teach a class with coaching from experienced teachers. Each class is videotaped so you can see for yourself what is right and what is off-track. The coaches identify areas where you need development and give specific methods on improvement. Homework is customized for each student's needs.
Each student must attend all classes in this series in order to obtain the required hours for certification. You will have to pay a make-up fee to the supervising teacher if you miss class.
Class will not meet on Oct 8, Nov 5 and 12 due to other workshops.
