In June of 2002 she traveled to Mysore, India, to study with Sri K
Pattabhi Jois and has been practicing Ashtanga yoga in her personal
practice ever since.
Kim says,
“I’m truly a “Type-A Ashtanga person, my life’s challenge is to
slow down and learn to let things happen as they will.
Yoga, in general, but Ashtanga specifically, is a good teacher.
Every time I try to push too hard in a new pose or “strong-arm” my way
into something before I’m ready, my body lets me know I’ve gone too
far. Mindfulness practice is a difficult lesson for me, but a very
important one! I’ve learned much from the healing process of yoga and
about beginning again “with awareness”. While Ashtanga is my
personal practice I have learned much from other teachers; David and Doug
Swenson, John Friend, Lino Miele, and especially, Francois Raoult.
After spending
nearly 20 years in “Corporate America” as consultant, International
Trade Specialist, small business owner, and manager; I first became
interested in yoga for the meditative, spiritual aspect, but very soon I
was hooked on the postures and the increased flexibility and balance my
practice gave me. After moving to the Louisville area in 2000 from
Phoenix, Arizona, and finding Yoga East, I learned that yoga was much more
than I ever dreamed. Then I
became serious about learning how to live my yoga.
Every day something new comes up, each day something old drops
away. I love teaching yoga;
my students are the most wonderful people in the world.
They keep me real and we keep each other from getting too serious
about our practices. My deep
and driving desire is to live a compassionate life of service.
My very first yoga teacher said that the most important thing you
can give your students is the example of your life working.
I try to live by that every day. In
addition to yoga, my life does work because I share it fully with my best
friend and husband, Eric, our dog, 4 horses, 3 cats, and
we live on a little farm out in Southern Indiana….now that really
works!” |

| Jennifer
Hamill |
I attended my first
hatha yoga class with my husband in 1991. I
was lured to seek more after discovering the feeling of
gracefulness and the
stillness of the mind.
After the birth of my second child
In 1995, the flame of love was ignited by my first yoga
teacher Gurumayi Chidvilasananda of the Siddha Yoga lineage. Through
meditating, chanting, and study of scriptures I found a profound sense of
oneness with the universe. My path then lead me to Yoga East,
where I graduated from the teacher training program in 2003
with special merit for my research paper on Pranayama. Under the
tutelage of Laura Spalding, I
began practicing and developed a love for Ashtanga yoga. The challenges
Ashtanga yoga offers have given me the tools to embrace the challenges of
my daily living. I continue to supplement
my personal learning with various workshops. These
have included instruction by Francois Raoult, Kali Ray of Tri
Yoga, and Sharath Rangaswamy. I look forward to my daily Ashtanga practice
and am presently studying with an Ashtanga teacher in Lexington where I
live with my husband and three young children. I am currently teaching
Yoga classes in Lexington, but
teaching at Yoga East is
a gift that allows me
to continue to be part of a yoga community steeped in tradition. I am
grateful to not only my Yoga East teachers, but also the many others who
continue to guide me on my path. Namaste! |

| Kelli C. Torpey |
Kelli
has been practicing yoga since 1998, but developed a passionate interest
in it since attending classes at Yoga East. She was an avid Ashtanga
student prior to a knee injury which required surgery. She believes her
injury has been a valuable teacher that will help her be an even better
yoga instructor. She looks forward to teaching yoga classes in her areas
of interest: mantra meditation, gentle Hatha, and workshops using mandalas
- drawing on her background as an art therapist. Kelli trusts that
her path as a teacher will unfold as she follows her heart.
Kelli is a 2003 graduate from
Yoga East's teacher training program. She has an MA degree in art therapy
from the University of Louisville and is currently enthusiastically
involved with the Mellwood Arts & Entertainment Center as
Leasing/Marketing Manager. |

Ken Von Roenn III |
Ken von Roenn III
completed the Yoga East teacher training program with
honors in 2000 and has been actively teaching in Louisville and Lexington. He
continues his education by participating in conferences and traveling to study with
new teachers. His bachelors in philosophy and studies of eastern religions have been
an integral part of his own spiritual path. Ken finds the beauty and truth inherent
in all the world's religions and integrates them into his teaching. Ken's physical
activity has always been a primary focus of his life. It is his delight to share
the gifts of yoga with his students. Lightheartedness and laughter might
be the greatest thing you learn in his classes. Ken's website: www.k3yoga.com |
